Spybot, spyware and other computer viruses all have common motives and effects. Mostly, they are all nuisances that require time and money to rectify and/or remove. Most spyware or spybot do not intentionally harm your computer. They tend to install programs or open up a gateway for others to get access or control your computer in some way. Many will install a small application that has specific instructions on what to do to your computer. This includes everything from pesky popups to complete disabling of most functions of your computer.

There are many programs specifically created to help and many of them are free to remove spybot, spyware, malware, adware and all the other viruses that are out there. Spybot search and destroy is actually one of the better ones, but usually you need to run more than one program to completely clean your computer.
Signs that you are infected include popups of various kinds, including a popup telling you to download a piece of software to remove the popups! Many popups will contain some sort of advertisement and may even contain pornography. Other signs that you need spybotsearchanddestroy type antispybot programs are that your computer will slow down, the desktop takes a long time to load or your background or screensavers change by themselves.
